I'm Callie, and I'm a Golden Retriever and Collie Dog. I'm also Top Dog around here - except of course for Pops, but that's only because he's the one that buys all the food and treats - hee hee. I'm about seven years old now....don't remember my exact birthday, but I sure do remember the day I came to live here....May 8, 1992. I had been at the Yucky Dog Jail for about a month, and had just about given up hope of ever getting out of there.
I remember sitting in my cage, when I got a strange feeling that this was going to be the day....yep, I just knew it. So I waited patiently until I heard these footsteps coming. As they got closer, I could hardly stand it. I was so happy when the cage door opened and Pop took me in his arms, and hugged me. It felt so good. But looking back now, I realize how lucky I really was, because most dogs at the Yucky Dog Jail never find a home.
I live in Southern California with my brother Charlie Brown and sisters Daisy Mae and Polly. Charlie Brown - aka Pizza Mutt - is a full blooded Mutt (like me). Half of him comes from a Yellow Lab, and the other half comes from a Terrier (I'm not too sure which half is which thougt).
Daisy Mae and Polly are retired racing greyhounds. They use to work at a big place in Arizona, chasing after a furry fake bunny while humans cheered 'em on. Sounds like a really weird job to me. Well, a couple of years ago, Daisy Mae (who's professional name was Panyo Pooch, decided she'd had enough of life on the fast track, so she hung up her silks and moved to a greyhound retirement and adoption community. There, she met Pops, and decided that she needed more out of life than living at an old dogs home.
Polly is sorta related to Daisy Mae - they both had the same owner and trainer at the race track. Her professional name was Panyo Polly. In November 1999, she too decided it was time to try something other that chase after that fuzzy bunny. So she and Daisy Mae joined together and created "Panyo and Panyo - Professional Sofa Testers, Inc." Wow, they're really good at it.
I've been to dog school and have learned to do several amazing tricks - like balancing a cookie on the end of my nose. I also enjoy chasing tennis balls and birds, going for long walks in the desert, camping, and of course, eating. And car rides? I love car rides - the longer the better. I do allow Pops to drive me around however, so he won't feel as though he is not needed - hee hee.
Thanks for stopping by.....I really enjoyed barking with you. And I would really love if you would leave your paw prints in my guest book. I know most dogs automatically "sign" their names to things, but sometimes we have to remind our humans - hee hee.
